Process - Instructional
Design The following is a
general guideline for the process we use in creating training. The
process is often modified by clients due to time and budget
constraints. Nonetheless, this process serves as a handy checklist by
which to ensure that all elements are completed. Elements of this
instructional design process can also be valuable in the development of
technical documentation.
Analysis Phase
1. Perform performance (gap) analysis
2. Perform goal analysis
3. Perform task analysis
4. Perform audience analysis
Design Phase
1. Develop learning objectives (performance,
conditions, criteria)
2. Develop a skill hierarchy
3. Identify course prerequisites
Development Phase
1. Develop criterion referenced testing elements
2. Select method of delivery
3. Develop content that promotes understanding of
testing elements
4. Develop modules
5. Sequence the modules
6. Tryout the lessons
Implementation Phase
1. Put the training system in place
2. Train instructors and students to use it
Evaluation Phase
1. Evaluate to Kirkpatrick's four levels of training
evaluation
2. Determine return on investment
3. Return to any of the previous phases for continuous
improvement
